The Double Octave Beat (DOB) feature has undergone significant changes since its initial introduction. Originally, the DOB range was limited to +/- 2.0, which placed constraints on treble tuning flexibility for technicians.

Early Limitations of DOB

When DOB was first implemented, its range was set at +/- 2.0. With this configuration, the maximum DOB setting of 2.0 could only stretch the note A7 by 12 cents.
This posed a challenge, particularly in FAC tunings, which utilize the double octave width in the treble. Technicians seeking a greater stretch than what was possible with the original DOB found themselves restricted by this limitation..

DOB Challenges with FAC Tuning

FAC tunings use double octave widths in the treble.   As handy as the DOB feature is for adding stretch, the DOB maximum setting of 2.0 was insufficient for technicians who wanted to tune A7 as a triple octave. Simply put, there was not enough DOB available to transform the default double octaves of an FAC tuning into triple octaves in the upper register.

Recent SAT Programming Improvements

There have been numerous programming updates of the AccuTuner over the years.   One of them has been expanding the DOB range to 10.0. This enhancement allows for substantially greater stretch and flexibility for tuning the high treble when using an FAC tuning, offering technicians much more control. With the new DOB range, A7 can now be raised by as much as 60 cents. This update provides ample flexibility for technicians to tailor their treble tuning stretch according to their precise preferences.

Step 1: Access the SAT Settings

Begin by pressing and holding the BlueShift button on your SAT device. While continuing to hold BlueShift, press and hold the Note UP button.

Step 2: Determine the Programming Version

Observe the maximum value displayed when pressing the Note UP button. If the value reaches 10, your SAT is equipped with the latest programming and supports the new DOB range.

If the value only increases up to 2.0, your SAT might doesn’t have the updated programming. In this case, it is recommended to contact Inventronics to inquire about an update.
